Tymen Visser: Liberated Icons
Dutch artist Tymen Visser, who has been based in Tokyo for several years now, holds his first solo exhibition to coincide with the opening of 1010 Art Gallery in Yokohama. Through his paintings, Visser seeks to 'liberate the icon, leaving only the essentials' and says that making art has always been his way of showing appreciation of the world around him. He is generally inspired by everything from skateboarding to Japanese woodblock prints, but for 'Liberated Icons', the theme takes inspiration from 'crowded toy trains'.
