Tymen Visser: Liberated Icons

Dutch artist Tymen Visser, who has been based in Tokyo for several years now, holds his first solo exhibition to coincide with the opening of 1010 Art Gallery in Yokohama. Through his paintings, Visser seeks to 'liberate the icon, leaving only the essentials' and says that making art has always been his way of showing appreciation of the world around him. He is generally inspired by everything from skateboarding to Japanese woodblock prints, but for 'Liberated Icons', the theme takes inspiration from 'crowded toy trains'.

The Showa Kayo Night,
a regular event in Tokyo  by the Okawari Kyoudai
which rolls back time to play Japanese music from the 50s-early 80s.
is getting a fair bit of well-deserved attention: it was recently featured in GQ Japan magazine, and interviews were aired on Fuji TV and ZIP TV. The organizers are back after a break and have recharged their chi, ready to boggle your body and mind with their year of the snake showa style. Bring your new year appetite for groovy showa flavor, and get ready to feast upon the tasty musical treats of the Okawari Kyoudai and friends! And even if you’re broke post-holidays, no excuse as the entry is only ¥300 and most drinks are discounted to ¥500.

Orwellian tendencies

Orwellian tendencies

life, life of art
Artist and model Tymen Godert Alois Visser was born in the ominous year 1984. Though he is conscious of the Orwellian tendencies in the present day world, his relaxed and serious personality and lifestyle are an adequate countermove. Life is an art. And with art new life can be created. In short: freedom.

As model Tymen Visser embodies integrity and a classical elegance, becoming one with the fashion he is showing. Beauty is not a luxury, it is a necessity to make a better world and not fake one.
That is his attitude.

As painter Tymen Visser is now working on a series of portraits of famous colleagues. Van Gogh, Dali, Rembrandt, lichtenstein and others. With an outlined colourful emptiness, he liberates the icons from
their cage of fame. Behind the portraits he conjures up as it were the true faces of the artists.

Orwellian Tendances

RAS

RAS could stand for Rational Anarkey Syndrome, or Reverb Acoustic Staccato, or Reason After Sense, or Rapid Action Support.....

This can go on forever and surely will. But RAS is also ROTTERDAM ART SHIELD. And Rotterdam Art Shield is just like the Musketeers or the Roman Rulers: a bond of three men, artists to be precise. 3 totally different characters with one goal that binds their focus: filling a blackhole with a rising sun!

Tjalling Visser, Tymen Visser, Henri van Zanten decided in spring 2009 to combine their excentric and individualist tendencies. The name that came up:
Rotterdam Art Shield. It indicates their metaphysical mentality. It is not about them against Rotterdam. It is protecting Rotterdam against them. But the shield is also used as a mirror, only provoking subjective suspense. Reflexions?

What's new? Our goal is not to create something new or claim that. Art in our time cannot be but a comment in the form of refreshing combinations, interpretations, collisions and strange love affairs. It is not unthinkable by doing so we repel, attract and bewilder at the same time. That is the female side of Rotterdam atrt shield

Daddy don't get maddy at your saddy, thats baddy laddy

Dear dad,

Although i am older than you, and you older than me, in the spirit of progress we are nearly decadent in our eagerness to ubermensch ourselves. We do not tire, we do not tire, we step in the source of the energy for the other. That is evolution…survival of the wittiest..

“My heart belongs to daddy! “. Didn’t Marilyn Manson, uh, Monroe sing that? Without wanting to cover her up as a dead salesman, i agree. So how can you doubt? Waver? I mean, i don’t say my big mouth isn’t a quote of Edvard Munch’s masterpiece (and it was stealable!) , the scream, the cream, the dream. But no scheme. Dad, you carried me in your hands, not  because didn’t want me as your child. So, you won’t pick up what you don’t want to carry, and you want drop what’s in your heart. So Daddy, be proud of your self, just as i am. Of you. Because of you i can be a stressdesigner between fact and fiction. You Dad are the calm sea under the storm. And not a Samurai in madame Tussaud’s. So Dad, i’ll show you a picture, us , just look at the 2 mthrfckrs. I don’t say i know everything, but i feel the truth that your TAO or Dharma or just your complete intuition is, as i said complete. Not because i am your son you should look like me? You are your time, i have to take it…
